La hermana pequeña- Li'l sis

Este es un quilt para la hermana pequeña de Sophie, cuyo quilt (Para un bebé - For a baby) apareció en la ultima entrada. 

This quilt is for Sophie's little sister, whose quilt (Para un bebé - For a baby) was shown in my last post. 

Quería hacer un quilt similar al de su hermana, no igual. 

I wanted to make a quilt similar to her sister's, but not the same.  

Aproveché algunos bloques que no habian entrado en el primer quilt.  Reproduje otros bloques y utilicé algunas de las mismas telas.

I used up some blocks that had not been included in the first quilt.  I copied other blocks and used some of the same fabrics.

Nuevamente, no acolché muy densamente ya que me gusta que las mantitas bebé sean tiernas y "abrazables". 

Again, not densely quilted, as I like baby quilts to be soft and "huggable".

Y fué para Holanda, a reunirse con su quilt hermana. 

And off it went to The Netherlands, to meet its sister quilt.

PARA UN BEBÉ - For a Baby

Este quilt es para un bebé y se fue a Holanda.
Es para Sophie,  que nació el 14 de Febrero.
This is a quilt for a baby and it went to The Netherlands.
It is for Sophie, who was born on 14 February.

El primer curso online que hice, allá por 2012 (Craftsy Block of the Month 2012, con Amy Gibson) era el tipico muestrario, y me llevó todo este tiempo terminarlo...
The first online course I took, way back in 2012 (Craftsy Block of the month 2012 with Amy Gibson), was a sampler, but it took me all this time to finish it.

Como vi que iba a ser demasiado grande, seleccioné algunos de los bloques e hice un quilt más pequeño, adecuado para un bebé: con mucho color y, en la epoca en que lo hice, sin saber si iba a ser niño o niña (como si eso importara hoy en dia...), los verdes y turquesas con algo de amarillo me parecieron perfectos. 
As I saw it would be too big, I selected some blocks and made a smaller quilt, fit for a baby: with plenty of colour, and, at the time I made it, not knowing whether it was going to be a boy or a girl (does it matter nowadays?), green and turquoise with splashes of yellow seemed perfect to me.

Aprendi a hacer los bloques llamados Placa de Desden, "log cabin" ladeado, estrellas de diverso tipo y otros.
I learnt  how to make a Dresden plate, wonky log cabin blocks, stars and others.

A la hora de acolcharlo, preferí seguir el diseño de los bloques, añadiendo mi toque personal; y así resultó. Usé un hilo verde variegado.

At the time of quilting it, I preferred to follow the designs of the blocks, plus my personal touch, and this is how it turned out. I used a green variegated thread.

QUILT PARA CASA DE CAMPO - A Quilt for a house in the country

Esta colcha fue hecha para un sitio determinado. Mide 159 x 210 cm (59" x 82"). 

This quilt was made for a specific place. It measures 159 x 210 cm (59" x 82"). 

Colcha Lestanque - Lestanque quilt

El sitio para el que la colcha fue hecha es Lestanque, en las afueras de Cologne, Francia. 

The place the quilt was made for is Lestanque, outside the town of Cologne, France.

Creo que se llama así porque a un lado de la casa hay un estanque de aguas muy limpias, con sapitos. El sitio tiene dos columnas y dos arcos y la casa está rodeada de árboles frutales y de silencio.

I think it's got its name after the pond there is to one of the sides of the house, with very clear water and toads. 

On the premises there are two columns and two arches, and the house is surrounded by lots of fruit trees and silence.

                                               
Vieja granja, cerrada durante décadas, mis primos la están restaurando.
An old farm closed during decades, my cousins are refurbishing it. 

Invitada a pasar unos días allí, se me ocurrió hacer una colcha para cubrir la cama que uso cuando estoy allí, y que quede luego para diversos usos: cubrir el sofá cuando no funciona como cama, y también cuando el sofá está desplegado para 2 personas, o si se necesita en otro sitio de la casa.
Asi que es una colcha doble, pero no muy grande.
I was invited to spend some days there, so I thought I could make a quilt to cover the bed I use when I'm there, and then it can be left there for various uses: to cover the couch when it is not a bed, and also when it is open for use by two persons, or if it is needed elsewhere in the house. 
Therefore, it is a double quilt but not too big.

La colcha tendrá que convivir con muebles viejos y cosas nuevas para que la estancia allí sea agradable. 

The quilt will have to coexist with old pieces of furniture and new things to make the stay pleasant. 

El diseño es simple: una estrella rodeada de molinillos que giran para un lado y para el otro (según les dé el viento...😊) y unos rombos alrededor.

The design is quite simple: a star surrounded by pinwheels that turn clockwise and anti-clockwise (according to where the wind comes from😊) and some diamonds all around.  

Ahora la colcha está esperando nuestra próxima visita a Lestanque para llegar a su destino definitivo.

Now the quilt is waiting for our next visit to Lestanque to get to its final destination.

Hice todo el diseño de la colcha sobre la base de los bloques "lazy angle blocks", que dan mucho juego porque se pueden hacer innumerables diseños combinando las dos formas originales.

The whole design of the quilt was made on the basis of the  "lazy angle blocks", which allow for innumerable combinations starting from 2 basic forms.

 

OTRA PANERA - Another Bread Basket

Esta es para Alvaro y su chica... mi humilde contribucion a su casa nueva.

Alvaro es el hijo de mi amiga Isabel, a quien le regalé una manta hace ya unos años (desgraviadamente, me olvidé de sacar fotos...) en tonos tierra, tostados, cálidos, como le gusta a ella. 

This one is for Alvaro, and his girl. My humble contribution to his new home. Alvaro is my friend Isabel's son. I gave her a quilt a few years ago (unluckily no photos...) which was in earth, burnt, warm colours, her preferred ones. 

Lo bueno de estas paneras es que se pueden guardar facilmente porque ocupan el espacio de una servilleta de tela. Tambien se puede trasladar facilmente, desatando los 4 nudos y dejandola plana. 
The good thing about these breadbaskets is that they can be easily put away because they are the size of a napkin. they can also be taken from one place to another easily, undoing the four knots on the corners and making it flat.

Son tambien faciles de lavar. 
They are also easy to wash.

El acolchado, muy simple, permite que la cestita se mantenga armada. Cuatro nudos, y ya está.

The quilting is simple but makes it stand. Four knots and it's done.

Solo quedaron las migas.... Only the crumbs remain...

FESTIVAL DE COLCHAS EN LOS BLOGS Otoño 2017 - Bloggers Quilt Festival Fall 2017

Esta vez presento la mantita de bebé hecha para Samuel, hermanito de Marcos. 

This time, I’m entering Samuel's quilt. Samuel is Marcos' little brother. 

Elegí tonos claros y oscuros de azul, bastante convencional, y confección simple y alegre. 

I chose light and dark blues, which is quite conventional, and simple and cheerful piecing.

 El toque está en el acolchado: caracoles. Así que la mantita se llama "los caracoles de Samuel"

The touch is in the quilting: snails. So the quilt's name is "Samuel's snails"

Como en todas la mantitas de bebé que hago, no hago la lineas del acolchado muy juntas entre sí, para que quede tierna y suavecita. 

I expressly made the quilting lines quite apart, so that it would not be stiff. To me, a  tender, cuddly quilt is a must  for a baby quilt.

MOMENTOS DE NAVIDAD Christmas Moments

Navidad... Christmas time... 
En esta época de mi vida, es estar con la familia, comer cosas ricas, preparar regalitos, compartir momentos...
At this time of my life, it is being with family, eating nice things, preparing presents, sharing moments... 
Este año, a Luci Santa Claus le trajo una máquina de coser.
This year, Santa Claus brought Luci a sewing machine. 
Y la máquina se vino con nosotros a Mijas, Málaga (para los que no están en España, Andalucia).
And the machine travelled with us to Mijas, Malaga (for those of you who are not in Spain, it is in the region of Andalucia). 
Así que aquí hemos probado y practicado con la nueva máquina.
So we have tried it and practised with it. 

Sólo teníamos unos retales pequeños. Y para probar la maquina había que hacer algo, no solo muestras...We only took with us a few small scraps. and to try the machine something had to be made with it, not just samples... 
Por otra parte, haciendo la compra en un supermercado local aproveché una oferta de cremalleras (cierres relámpago).
Lo mejor de ambos mundos: máquina de coser, tiempo libre y trocitos de tela: la felicidad del patchwork!!
Besides, on doing some shopping at a supermarket I found and bought a set of zippers. Best of both worlds: sewing machine, free time, and fabric scraps: patchwork bliss!!

Resultaron 3 pequeños porta-pequeñas cosas: 2 para los auriculares y uno para tarjetas en un ratito de una tarde lluviosa (20 minutos c/u)
Three small cases resulted in a short time during a rainy afternoon: 2 earplugs cases, one cards holder. 


Para llevar esas tarjetas que no son las de crédito, pero que tienes muchas: de afiliación a la gasolinera, supermercado, farmacia y diversas tiendas. También se puede llevar el carnet de conducir o el DNI.

For carrying those cards  which are not your credit or back cards, but those numerous supermarket, service station, pharmacy and other shops' affiliation cards.  You can also carry your ID or driver's licence.  

Hice un ligero "acolchado" con costuras paralelas.

I did a "light" quilting, with parallel lines.

Caben unas 4 (y hasta 5) en cada lado. Lo doblas y ya las tarjetas no se desparraman en el fondo del bolso.

Four (and up to 5) cards fit into each side. You fold it and there you are: cards do not get scattered in the depths of your purse.

Los mini estuches son para llevar los auriculares, que se suelen enredar y mezclar con otros objetos que se van al fondo del bolso.

The mini cases are meant for carrying earplugs, whcih usually tangle and mix with other objects that slide down to the bottom of your bag/ purse.

ACOLCHADO A MANO Hand quilting

Con las hermanas  Jan Bressler y Lou Shafer hice un cursillo de iniciación al acolchado a mano de 6 horas de duración .

I took a short course for beginners hand quilting with Jan Bressler and Lou Shafer , who are sisters.

Lo hice por salir de mi zona de confort: quería tener la experiencia de acolchar a mano con pequeñas puntadas, hilo, bastidor y la técnica tradicionales.

I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and have the experience of hand quilting, with short little stitches, thread, hoop, in a traditional way.

Así que empecé un almohadón sobre una tela de algodón lisa, que venía diseñada en lineas azules con tinta que se va con el agua. Aprendi a usar un adminiculo muy interesante que se llama Aunt Becky's Finger Protector . Es decir un protector para el dedo. 
So I started a cushion (or pillow, in the USA) on a solid cotton, which had a design in blue ink that can be washed away. I learnt to use of a very interesting gadget which is called Aunt Becky's Finger Protector .

Este protector te permite guiar la puntada desde abajo, evitando que te pinches, facilitando el trabajo (con la práctica) y haciendo que tus puntaditas resulten (casi) todas iguales. 
This finger protector allows you to guide the stitch from underneath preventing you from getting pricked, making work easier (with practice) and helping your stitches to be (almost) of the same length.

Por ser la primera vez que acolcho a mano, no me puedo quejar. Creo que voy a adaptar el acolchado a mano a algunos de mis trabajos, usando puntadas más largas, con hilos más gruesos y colores contrastantes.
Being this the first time I hand quilt, I cannot complain about the result. 
I think I'm going to adapt handquilting to some of my work, taking longer stitches and using thicker thread in contrasting colours.

Fue una experiencia positiva.
It was a positive experience.

SISTERS 2 UN LARGO CAMINO... A long way...

"Un largo camino, dulce y serpenteante a Sisters" es mi colcha para la edición número 40 de la exposición al aire libre de Sisters, Oregón (Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show). Mide +- 1,23 x 1,65 m (49 x 66 pulgadas).
A Sweet Long Winding way to Sisters" is my quilt for the 40th edition of the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show. It measures 49 x 66 inches (1,23 x 1,65 m). 

Mi participación en la exposición que se celebra este año es una colcha de diseño "winding ways" del libro de Nancy Elliott, que inicié con Adriana de Broches ). Mi desafío esta vez era coser bloques en curva.
My participation in this year's Show is a "winding ways" design from Nancy Elliot's book and a class with Adriana, from Broches . My challenge was to sew curved pieces. 

Cuando estaba casi terminada la parte de arriba (el top) decidí que incluía más colores que rompieran un poco la repetición de este dinámico diseño. Tuve que descoser bastante para incluir los círculos de otro color.
When the top was almost finished I decided to include more colours in order to break the repetition of this dynamic design. I had to unstitch quite a bit to include those circles in a different colour. 

Añadí  trocitos de otro color esparcidos en diversas partes como un permiso a mi espíritu rebelde (¿rebelde?) que busca salir de lo dictado por el patrón, una concesión a mi misma y a mi forma particular y pacifica de salirme de los moldes.
I added little scraps of colour scattered in various parts as to give myself permission to my  rebellious (rebellious, really??) spirit which tries to get out of what the pattern dictates, allowing myself to pacifically break out from the rules in my own way.

 El acolchado tenía que ser también en curva. Y se me ocurrió un diseño que hiciera resaltar las curvas y otro complementario que rellenara sin abrumar...
The quilting has to be done in curves also. So I thought of one design that would enhance the curves, and another one that would complement it and fill in the space without being too overwhelming... 

No sé si lo he logrado... Quizás una vuelta más al circulo hubiera hecho el diseño más regular. Pero aquí de nuevo ¿por qué regular?
I do not know if I made it... Maybe one more circle would have rendered a more regular design. But here again: why regular? 

Este año mi humilde colcha estuvo colgada
junto a otras en una calle transversal a la
Avenida Cascade en Sisters. ¡Qué orgullo!
This year, my humble quilt was hung 
among others on a street that crosses 
Cascade Avenue in Sisters. How proud I am!
