Esta vez presento la mantita de bebé hecha para Samuel, hermanito de Marcos. 

This time, I’m entering Samuel's quilt. Samuel is Marcos' little brother. 

Elegí tonos claros y oscuros de azul, bastante convencional, y confección simple y alegre. 

I chose light and dark blues, which is quite conventional, and simple and cheerful piecing.

 El toque está en el acolchado: caracoles. Así que la mantita se llama "los caracoles de Samuel"

The touch is in the quilting: snails. So the quilt's name is "Samuel's snails"

Como en todas la mantitas de bebé que hago, no hago la lineas del acolchado muy juntas entre sí, para que quede tierna y suavecita. 

I expressly made the quilting lines quite apart, so that it would not be stiff. To me, a  tender, cuddly quilt is a must  for a baby quilt.

Como en anteriores ediciones, participo en el FESTIVAL de Colchas en los Blogs -- Bloggers Quilt Festival, que organiza cada año Amy's Creative Side . As in previous editions, I'm participating in the Bloggers Quilt Festival, which is organised by Amy's Creative Side.

Hay diversas categorías. Yo participo aquí en la categoría de ART quilts.
There are several categories, and here I'm participating in the ART quilts category. 
Esta es mi versión de El Arco Delicado, Delicate Arch.
This is my version of the Delicate Arch.

Está hecho sobre una foto que tomé en Arches National Park, Utah, en 2015, y después de la subida para llegar hasta el punto desde donde este arco se puede ver. It is made from a photo I took in the Arches National Park, Utah, in 2015, after climbing to reach the point where the arch can be observed. 

Utilicé la técnica de "raw Appliqué", para colocar los trocitos de tela; es decir, recortándolos como un collage, eligiendo colores y formas, sin utilizar  entretela termoadhesiva. I used the "raw appliqué" technique, placing the little scraps of fabric as in a collage, choosing colours and shapes and without using fusible interfacing. 

Realcé las sombras y tonalidades de la piedra con  hilos de colores diferentes. 

I enhanced the shades and stone hues with different colour threads.

Blogger's Quilt Festival  -  Festival de cochas en los blogs

Una vez más, Amy de Amy's Creative side nos ofrece la oportunidad de exponer nuestros trabajos en este festival que se lleva a cabo en los blogs.
Once again, Amy, from Amy's Creative side offers us the opportunity to exhibit our works in this blogger's festival. 

Esta es la segunda de las dos obras con que participo en esta edición del festival: categoría "Art quilts". (La otra es Marilyn en la categoría "applique".)

This is the second of the two quilts I'm participating with in  this Festival's edition: the Art Quilts category. (The other one is Marilyn, in the appliqué category.)
¿Por qué categoria ART? Why Art Category? 
Aunque sigo haciendo colchas utilitarias (que es la esencia del patchwork: brindar calor y confort a partir de trocitos de tela), cada vez me atrae más el aspecto artístico, y este invierno hice una colcha representando una escena de la localidad donde vivo: el mercadillo de pulgas que se instala en la calle sobre el puente del río.
Although I keep making utilitarian, functional quilts (which are the essence of patchwork: supply warmth and comfort starting from scraps of fabric), i find the artistic side of quilting more and more appealing. This past winter I made a quilt depicting a scene of the town I live in: street flea market on the bridge over the river. 

Nombre Name :  Calle Real y Río Guadarrama
Tamaño Size : 90 cm x 69 cm (35 1/2" x 27")
Diseño propio sobre una foto, también propia, del puente sobre el río Guadarrama a su paso por Collado Villalba.
My own design inspired in a photo that I took of the Guadarrama River at the point it crosses my town's (Collado Villalba) main street. 
Como lo hice:  con trocitos de tela aplicados con papel termofusible, trabajo de pintado con hilos de diversos colores, y acolchado, todo a máquina, en mi Elna 2800.
How I made it: small scraps appliquéd with the help of fusible web, thread painting, quilted on my (domestic) Elna 2800 . 

Aquí la foto que saqué desde otro puente (peatonal) sobre el río.Here you can see the photoo of the bridge taken from another bridge, a footbridge. 

Y aqu,í mi interpretación. And here, the way I interpreted it.

Lo bueno de este trabajo es que se pueden utilizar trocitos mínimos, de los que se desechan en condiciones normales. En este caso todo servía, y también los finales de las bobinas de hilos que parece que no van a servir... pero si son dos tonos, mejor que uno, y la mayoría de las veces no se necesitan grandes cantidades.
What I like of this kind of work is that it is possible to use up the smallest scraps, those that you would normally discard. In this case everything was useful, and so were those thread bobbins that are left with not much thread and leek like you are never going to use them again... but if it is two hues, better than one, and in most cases you do not need much thread. 

El pespunte con hilos de distintos tonos busca profundizar y dar sombras y luces.
Stitching with different thread colours gives greater depth and more tones of shades and light. 
Además, el acolchado más abigarrado en ciertas partes y en otras menos, también apoya el trabajo de dar luz y sombra y profundidad.
And quilting heavily certain zones and more lightly others also enhances the light/dark and depth work.

Por detrás se ven las puntadas del acolchado.
You can see the quilting stitches on the back.

Blogger's Quilt Festival - Primavera/Spring 2015 - 1

Otra vez es semana de participar en el Blogger's Quilt Festival, el Festival de Colchas en los Blogs...organizado por Amy, de Amy's Creative side.
Once again, this is the week to participate in the Blogger's Quilt Festival, organized by Amy, from Amy's Creative side.
Ya escribí sobre ésto el año pasado, y participé, con sendas colchas en forma de estrella (Blogger's Quilt Festival I y II).
I already wrote about this last year, and I also participated with two star themed quilts, which you can see HERE and HERE.

Este año participo en la categoría "appliqué" con esta colcha, que hice en el cursillo con Dami Ruiz, quien es la autora del diseño y nos enseñó la técnica.
This year I am participating in the "appliqué" category,with this quilt started at a one-day workshop with Dami Ruiz, who is the author of the design and taught us the technique.

Nombre Name: "Marilyn"
Tamaño Size:  105 cm x 70 cm (42" x 28") 
Diseñado por Designed by: Dami Ruiz (fb). 
Cómo lo hice: Sobre una variedad de telas con estampado pequeño sobre fondo claro apliqué varias telas con estampado pequeño sobre fondo oscuro. Esto lo hice con papel termofusible, siguiendo el diseño de la foto. 
How I made it: On a variety of small prints on a light background I fused several small prints on a dark background, following the design.  I used fusible web to do this.

Y los labios rojos, por supuesto... 
And of course, red lips...

Luego he acolchado siguiendo un diseño de meandro o gusanillo (stippling) a la vez que resalté el contorno de las piezas oscuras aplicadas con un pespunte, en algunas partes (la más grandes) doble, en otras, simple.
Then I quilted following a meander or stippling design and I highlighted the outline of the dark fabrics with a topstitch; doing two lines of topstitch for the bigger pieces, only one for the smaller ones.

FESTIVAL DE MANTAS EN LOS BLOGS II. Blogger's Quilt Festival II

La edición de primavera 2014 del Blogger's Quilt Festival está en marcha.
The 2014 spring edition of Blogger's Quilt Festival is under way.

Como expliqué en mi entrada de ayer, este Festival ya lleva varios años, desde 2009; y está organizado por Amy, de Amy's Creative side. Miralo AQUI.
As I explained in yesterday's blog post, this Festival has been around since 2009, and it is organised by Amy, from Amy's Creative side. Look HERE.

Como se pueden presentar dos mantas, decidí entrar también en la categoría mantas de diseño original, es decir, que no se ha copiado de ningún patrón o diseño, que es creación propia.
Como es el caso de ESTRELLA -  Star que hice para una amiga, Una estrella grande que brilla recortada sobre un cielo azul oscuro.
Given that it is possible to enter up to two quilts, I decided to enter in the original design quilts category, too. That is, quilts that are the quilters' own design, that have not been done on somebody else's pattern or design.
As is the case of ESTRELLA -Star, which I made for a friend. A big star that shines against a dark blue sky.

La idea nació porque tenía una tela de diseño grande, por lo que el diseño tenía que ser grande. Y a mi amiga le gusta dormir bajo las estrellas.
The idea was born because I had a fabric with a big design, so the design of my quilt had to be big. And my friend likes sleeping under the stars.

Comenté sobre esta manta en mi blog en DE ESTRELLAS Y NOCHES ESTRELLADAS. I commented on this quilt in my blog : ON STARS AND STARRY NIGHTS.

Está hecha con telas de Marimekko, otras variadas, aprovechando una oferta en el New England Quilt Museum NEQM durante el Festival de 2013, camisas y otras que tenía en casa, todas de algodón.
Intento también atenerme a la esencia del patchwork, que es aprovechar al máximo lo que tienes.
It is made with Marimekko fabrics, and various others, that I got at a sale in the New England Quilt Museum, NEQM during the 2013 festival, shirts and others from my stash. All cotton. 
I also try to keep the essence of patchwork, which is making the most of what you have.

El acolchado es bastante simple: lineas rectas siguiendo las puntas de la estrella, alejándose del centro.
Quilting is quite simple: staright lines following thwe star points, away from the centre of the quilt.

El acolchado se aprecia mejor por el revés. Quilting is better appreciated from the back

Medidas: 150 cm, cuadrada.
Size: 150 cm square (approx 60").

Por atrás aproveché partes de bloques sobrantes.

For the back I used some extra blocks.

Y le puse una etiqueta bordada a mano.

And I hand embroidered the label.

Igual que expliqué ayer, el proceso del festival es el siguiente: 

Hay que mirar también las otras mantas expuestas en el Festival. Y, a partir del 24 de mayo y hasta el 29, se puede votar por la que más te guste de cada categoría. Los ganadores se darán a conocer el 30 de mayo.
You  have to look at the other quilts exhibited in this Festival. And, as from 24 May, and until 29 May, vote for the one you like best in each category. Winners will be announced on May 30.

Se pueden ver las piezas expuestas en la sección diseño original AQUI y se le da un "me gusta" (como en Facebook) a la que prefieras. Espero que sea la mía, y sino, disfruta de todo lo que allí se muestra.
Casi no puedo creer que mi manta se exhiba al lado de la de gente que admiro por su trabajo y creatividad. He mirado en anteriores ediciones del festival y he visto algunas verdaderas obras de arte.
You can look at the quilts shown in the original design section HERE, and "like" the one you prefer, (as on Facebook). I hope you like mine; if you don't, enjoy everything that is shown there. 
I almost can't believe my quilt is shown side by side with those by people I admire for their work and creativeness. I have seen previous editions of this festival and there are some real artworks.
