DIA PI (Pi Day)

Hoy, marzo 14 de 2015 es el día ∏ (Pi). Hasta dentro de cien años los numeros 3, 14 y 15 no se vuelven a encontrar juntos en una fecha.
Today, March 14, 2015 is pi  ∏ day. The numbers 3, 14 and 15 will not be found together in a date in a hundread years' time.

El año pasado Martín le hizo a Luci una caja para llevar tartas, "pie" o "∏  box".
Last year, Martin made Luci a "pie (∏) box".

Este año me enteré de este proyecto inicialmente a través de Katell Renon, de La Ruche des Quilteuses, y participé en la confección de un ∏  hecho en una larga cinta con todos los dígitos enviados. En febrero mostré los bloques con dígitos que envié a Vancouver, WA (Washington State, EEUU) en este artículo.
This year, I initially learnt about this project through Katell Renon, from La Ruche des Quilteuses, and I participated in the making of a  ∏ in the form of a very long stitched ribbon.  In February I showed the blocks I sent with the digits to Vancouver, WA (Washington State, EEUU) in this post. 

Se recibieron más de 1500 bloques. Hoy podemos ver los bloques recibidos conformando una tira larga, es decir, un largo número ∏.
More than 1500 blocks were sent. Today we can see the blocks received making up a long ribbon, that is, a long ∏ number.

Sigo vivita y coleando, y siempre pensando en lo próximo que voy a publicar. Hoy, simplemente recuerdo el almohadón del primer artículo, y el significativo par de bloques que envié recientemente a Vancouver, EEUU, para el proyecto Pi, que es en marzo.
I'm alive and kicking, and always thinking of what I am going to post next.
Today, I simply remember the cushion which was shown on my first post, and the significant couple of blocks that I recently sent to Vancouver, USA for the Pi Project, which is in March.

PI (EL PROYECTO) The Pi Project

El 5 de enero, mi amiga francesa Katell, del blog La Ruche des Quilteuses publicó un artículo en el que anima a participar en el Proyecto PI; ya sabes, el famoso 3,1415 etc. 
Este número se suele celebrar el día 14 de marzo, por 3 (mes 3=marzo), 14 (el día); y este año es especial porque además es el año 15 (2015).

On 5 January, my French friend, Katell, from La Ruche des Quilteuses published an article in her blog, which promotes participation in the Pi Project. you know, famous Pi number, 3,1415 and so on. 
This number is usually celebrated on March 14 (march= month 3), and this year is special because it is year 15. 
Lo explica muy bien en su articulo, añadiendo una clara ilustración, y yo lo resumo aquí. 
She explains it very clearly and adds an illustration. I summarize it here. 

La idea es componer un número pi larguíiiiiiiiiisimo, a partir de los bloques que se envíen de todas partes del mundo cada uno con un número. Y se unirán en una tira laaaaarga. No hay peligro de exceso de números, ya que Pi es infinito.

The idea is to compose a very loooooong Pi number from blocks sent from around the world, each with one number each. They will be put together in a veeeery long strip. There is no risk of excess numbers, as Pi is infinite.

Las bases de participación están AQUI, y las resumo, al igual que hizo Katell (en francés).

Hay que enviar un dígito dibujado o pintado, aplicado, con lentejuelas, mostacillas, teñido, botones...
sobre un trozo de tela de 24 x 24 cm, unas 9.5 x 9.5 pulgadas.
Es decir, mandar un bloque con un número. Un solo numero por bloque, entre el 0 y el 9.

Si posible, en tela que no se vaya a desteñir, ya que previsiblemente será expuesto en el exterior. Si se desea, se puede firmar el bloque con el nombre, ciudad, país. Se pueden enviar tantos números como se quiera.

Yo usé una tela muy española, que se usa para los vestidos de Flamenco, y apliqué pequeños trozos de tela, a manera de confetti.
I used a very Spanish fabric, used for Flamlenco dresses, and raw stitched tiny scraps, in a confetti way.

How To Participate

Here are the requirements for your number:

• Each digit will be on a square of fabric which is 9.5 x 9.5 inches (24 x 24 cm)
• One number per square
• The number can be any digit from 0 to 9
• The number can be any size, any style, any font, but hopefully will not be closer to the edge than 1/4″
• You can sign your number square with your name if you want, and add your city, state, or country (especially if outside the US), OR just leave it plain.
• Your fabric can be cotton, canvas, old dishtowels, whatever, just so long as it is the proper size and has a single number on it
• Because the artwork will most likely be displayed outside, it would be best if it were composed of materials that will not run in the rain
• Numbers will not be returned and will become part of the artwork
• SEND AS MANY NUMBERS AS YOU WANT!

Deadline:  February 14, 2015 is the soft deadline.  Entries are welcome after that but are not guaranteed to make it into the ribbon.  But send it anyway.
