La hermana pequeña- Li'l sis

Este es un quilt para la hermana pequeña de Sophie, cuyo quilt (Para un bebé - For a baby) apareció en la ultima entrada. 

This quilt is for Sophie's little sister, whose quilt (Para un bebé - For a baby) was shown in my last post. 

Quería hacer un quilt similar al de su hermana, no igual. 

I wanted to make a quilt similar to her sister's, but not the same.  

Aproveché algunos bloques que no habian entrado en el primer quilt.  Reproduje otros bloques y utilicé algunas de las mismas telas.

I used up some blocks that had not been included in the first quilt.  I copied other blocks and used some of the same fabrics.

Nuevamente, no acolché muy densamente ya que me gusta que las mantitas bebé sean tiernas y "abrazables". 

Again, not densely quilted, as I like baby quilts to be soft and "huggable".

Y fué para Holanda, a reunirse con su quilt hermana. 

And off it went to The Netherlands, to meet its sister quilt.

PARA UN BEBÉ - For a Baby

Este quilt es para un bebé y se fue a Holanda.
Es para Sophie,  que nació el 14 de Febrero.
This is a quilt for a baby and it went to The Netherlands.
It is for Sophie, who was born on 14 February.

El primer curso online que hice, allá por 2012 (Craftsy Block of the Month 2012, con Amy Gibson) era el tipico muestrario, y me llevó todo este tiempo terminarlo...
The first online course I took, way back in 2012 (Craftsy Block of the month 2012 with Amy Gibson), was a sampler, but it took me all this time to finish it.

Como vi que iba a ser demasiado grande, seleccioné algunos de los bloques e hice un quilt más pequeño, adecuado para un bebé: con mucho color y, en la epoca en que lo hice, sin saber si iba a ser niño o niña (como si eso importara hoy en dia...), los verdes y turquesas con algo de amarillo me parecieron perfectos. 
As I saw it would be too big, I selected some blocks and made a smaller quilt, fit for a baby: with plenty of colour, and, at the time I made it, not knowing whether it was going to be a boy or a girl (does it matter nowadays?), green and turquoise with splashes of yellow seemed perfect to me.

Aprendi a hacer los bloques llamados Placa de Desden, "log cabin" ladeado, estrellas de diverso tipo y otros.
I learnt  how to make a Dresden plate, wonky log cabin blocks, stars and others.

A la hora de acolcharlo, preferí seguir el diseño de los bloques, añadiendo mi toque personal; y así resultó. Usé un hilo verde variegado.

At the time of quilting it, I preferred to follow the designs of the blocks, plus my personal touch, and this is how it turned out. I used a green variegated thread.

Esta vez presento la mantita de bebé hecha para Samuel, hermanito de Marcos. 

This time, I’m entering Samuel's quilt. Samuel is Marcos' little brother. 

Elegí tonos claros y oscuros de azul, bastante convencional, y confección simple y alegre. 

I chose light and dark blues, which is quite conventional, and simple and cheerful piecing.

 El toque está en el acolchado: caracoles. Así que la mantita se llama "los caracoles de Samuel"

The touch is in the quilting: snails. So the quilt's name is "Samuel's snails"

Como en todas la mantitas de bebé que hago, no hago la lineas del acolchado muy juntas entre sí, para que quede tierna y suavecita. 

I expressly made the quilting lines quite apart, so that it would not be stiff. To me, a  tender, cuddly quilt is a must  for a baby quilt.

FACU Y SU COLCHA Facu and his Quilt

Facu nació hace un año, pero vive lejos, y recién hace un mes pude llevarle su colchita.

Facu was born a year ago, but he lives far, so only last month could I go and gice him his quilt. 

Fue fácil decidir los colores. Brillantes y llenos de vida, como él.

It was easy to decide the colours. Bright and full of life, like him.

Me llevó algo más de tiempo decidir el modelo de bloque. Lo quería moderno; y lo encontré en el libro de Sujata Shah, Cultural Fusion Quilts. Elegí el modelo de bloque "cerca de madera" (=rail fence) en modo "whirligig".
It took me a bit longer to decide the block model. I wanted it to be modern; and I found it in Sujata Shah's book, Cultural Fusion Quilts. I chose the rail fence block in its whirligig mode. 

La inspiración me la dio el ejemplo del modelo que aparece en la pag. 29 del libro, confeccionado por mi amiga LeeAnn de Nifty Quilts.

And I was inspired by the example shown in page 29 of the book, made by my friend LeeAnn from Nifty Quilts. 

En el blog de Sujata aparece su bloque en forma de molinillo, que se puede ver AQUI. 

In Sujata's blog you can see the whirligig block clicking HERE. 

La técnica para hacer el bloque es la misma, pero se puede organizar de diferentes maneras. En lugar de quedar en forma de escalera como el que aparece en la portada del libro, o en grupos de 4, yo coloqué los bloques de manera individual, de forma que quedaran molinos con aspas cuadradas, como el del blog de Sujata.

The  technique for making the block is the same one, but it can be displayed in various ways. Instead of a railfence block as the cover of the book, or in groups of 4, I displayed the blocks individually, in the form of square blade whirligigs, like in Sujata's blog. 

En mi colcha, unos molinos apuntan hacia un lado, y los de la siguiente fila apuntan hacia el lado contrario. ¿Se nota?

In my quilt, one row of whirligigs goes clockwise, and the next anticlockwise. Can you notice it?

As in Eric's quilt, I built Facu's name in it, with the help of the Letter and number chart that LeeAnn gave me: 

Facu quedó contento y su madre corrió a ponerla sobre la cama y me mandó la foto...

Facu was happy and his mother ran to lay the quilt on the bed, took a photo and sent it to me.

Poco acolchado para que no resulte rigida,
Not too much quilting so that it is not stiff,

y su nombre. El patrón para hacer las letras me lo dio mi amiga LeeAnn de nifty quilts.

and his name. The pattern for the letters was given to me by my friend LeeAnn from nifty quilts.

El nombre de la colcha es "BleuBlanc rojoamarillo", asi, en francés y español, y por las banderas nacionales de su padre y su madre respectivamente: Francia y España.
The quilt's name is BleuBanc rojoamarillo, in French and Spanish, and for his father and his mother's national flags respectively - France and Spain.

EL BEBÉ The Baby

Marcos nació el 27 de septiembre. Marcos was born on the 27th September. 
Y yo he hecho una manta de bebé, con colores alegres, sin recargar. Sobre todo sin recargar, porque no sé de qué color va a ser la habitación y el resto del mobiliario.

And I have made a baby quilt. Joyful, with cheerful colours, without making it too elaborate. Above all, not too elaborate, as I do not know the baby's room's colours, or the rest of the furniture.

Mi idea era crear algo nuevo, y no copiar los miles de diseños de colchas infantiles que circulan.
Este ha sido mi intento. Estoy satisfecha, aunque seguiré explorando.
My idea was to create something new, and not to copy the thousands of baby quilt designs that you can see around.
This has been my attempt, and I'm satisfied, although I'll keep on exploring.

Los bloques están hechos a la manera de los triángulos que se hacen cortando un cuadrado por la diagonal, pero de forma irregular.
The blocks are made in the same way as half square triangles, but cut in an irregular way.
Combiné en todos los casos dos colores contrastantes, uno claro, de fondo, el otro alegre.
I combined contrasting colours, one light as the background, the other a bright one.  

Son todos distintos, pero resultan del mismo tamaño, al cortarlos y coserlos de a pares y cruzándolos entre sí. Así me permiten elegir la combinación de colores a medida que voy jugando con su colocación.

They are all different, but the same size as I cut them in pairs and sewed them to each other. So they allow me to  choose the combination of colours as I play with their placement.

Al margen de eso, la manta es bastante tradicional, con su marco y su orillo cosido a mano. Y al final, incluí su nombre en el acolchado.
Apart from that, the quilt is quite traditional, with its border and its handsewn binding. And at the end, I quilted his name .

El acolchado es bastante simple para que no quede muy rígida, y se mantenga tierna para un bebé.
I kept the quilting quite simple in order not to have a stiff quilt, and keep it 
soft for a baby. 

Por la parte de atrás se aprecia al acolchado simple.Y la etiqueta.
You can see how simple the quilting is from the back. And the label.

Seguiré explorando...en la combinación de colores y formas, más o menos complementarios, mas o menos regulares...
I'll keep on exploring ... more or less complementary colours and shape combination, more or less irregular...

COLCHA BEBÉ 1 Baby quilt 1

El verano pasado diseñe y confeccioné mi primera colcha para bebé.
Last summer I designed and made my first baby quilt.

Mide 108 x 135cm It measures approx. 43" x 54".

Si bien el diseño del bloque no es original - estrella de la amistad - la distribución y disposición de los bloques sí lo es, así como mi idea del marco y la parte trasera, a juego con el frente.
Although the block design is not a novelty  - friendship star -  the distribution and display of the blocks is, as well as my idea of the frame around it and the back, which matches the top.

Lo del bloque es porque tenia ganas de hace este diseño - nunca había hecho este bloque.
I chose this block because I fancied doing it - I had never tried my hand at this block.

El tamaño tenia que ser acorde con una manta bebé. Ni muy grande,ni tampoco demasiado pequeño. Y me gustaba la idea de hacer unos marcos al tono, con las esquinas rematadas en cuadritos.
The size of the blocks had to be according to a baby size quilt. Neither too  big nor too small. And I fancied the idea of framing the blocks in matching colours, and ending the corners in small square blocks.  

Otra cosa era el acolchado: suficientemente apretado, pero que se mantuviera tierno como para un bebé. Creo que lo he logrado.
And the quilting had to be close enough but not too much, so as to keep the whole quilt soft and cuddly for a baby. I think I made it.

Por detrás le di un poco de vida cortando de manera asimétrica el paño y repitiendo los colores del frente.
I made the back a bit more lively by breaking the symmetry of the whole surface with scraps from the top.
