Esto no es patchwork. Esto es jardinería.  ¿Y qué tiene que ver la jardinería con el patchwork? 

This is not patchwork. This is gardening. And what has gardening to do with patchwork? 

Esto comienza en enero- febrero, más o menos, cuando hay que podar la lavanda. Mi vecino Javier, que sabe mucho de esto, y tiene un blog con unas fotos preciosas de flores y plantas, diría que debería ser más precisa...

This starts around January - February, when the lavender bush has to be pruned. My neighbour Javier, who knows a lot about this and has a blog showing beautiful flowers and plants, would say I should be more precise...

En enero in January

La mata de lavanda ha crecido demasiado porque tardé en comprender que hay que podar más, y con mayor precisión (Ay! Javier, ¡cuánta razón tienes!!). Pero ahora es tarde porque hay que podar la lavanda por encima de la parte leñosa del tallo. Si no la has podado en su momento no se mantendrá bajita, como en los cultivos de lavanda de la Provenza.

This shrub has grown too big because I realised late that it needs to be pruned more and more precisely (Yes, Javier, you are SO right!!!) .

But is is now too late because the shrub has to be pruned above the woody part of the stems. If you haven't pruned timely it will not stay low, as the cultures in the French region of Provence...

CUMPLEAÑOS Birthday

Un cumpleaños es una ocasión para regalar. A mis amigas les regalo cosas hechas de patchwork.
Esta vez un bolso pequeño.

Birthdays are great ocasions for giving presents. I give my friends patchwork things  made by myself. 
This time it's a small bag.

Para salir cerca de casa, para sacar a pasear al perro,
no se necesita llevar un gran bolso: no llevas más que
un pañuelo, el teléfono móvil y las llaves.
When you're going out not far from home it is not necessary to carry a big handbag: you don't usually need more than a handkerchief or tissues, your mobile phone, keys. 

Le gusta el azul, los tonos azules.
She likes blue, blue hues. 

Hice una bolsita pequeña con una tira larga que permite llevarlo colgado y las manos quedan libres.
I made a small bag with a very long strap to hang it from, and your hands are free. 

Primero hice la tira, de aproximadamente un metro.
First I made the strap, approximately 1 metre long (40"). 

A la tira larga le puse en el centro unos trozos de la misma tela del bolso. Half way through the strap I added some blue scraps from the bag  

Le puse entretela a la parte central de la tira, para reforzarla. I put a strip of interfacing to reinforce the strap . 

Además, hice dos presillas para fijar la tira larga a los lados de la bolsita.I also made two very short loops to fasten the strap to the bag sides 

Con pequeños retales de algodón en tonos azules armé dos trozos de unos 20 x 22,5 cm para las partes delantera y trasera.
I made two 20 x 22,5 cm  (approx. 8" x 9") pieces of fabric with small blue scraps. For the front and back sides of the bag. 

Los acolché con una entretela fina por debajo.
I quilted both sides using a thin interfacing sheet. 

Para el forro utilicé  tela azul celeste de algodón de la que corté dos trozos del mismo tamaño que los de la parte exterior
For the lining I used light blue cotton fabric. I cut two pieces the same size as the exterior pieces.  

Hice una segunda bolsita - igual a la parte exterior - y uní las dos bolsitas - exterior e interior (forro) - por la cremallera. Una vez unidas, se dan vuelta, quedando la parte que estaba adentro, afuera. y se mete una ( el forro) dentro de la otra.
I made a second bag the same size as the outsied bag, and I sewed the two bags together on sweing the zip. Once sewn together, both bags are turned inside out and the lining goes inside.

Este es el momento mágico en el que se dan vuelta los dos (de adentro hacia afuera), y luego se mete el forro dentro de la parte exterior.
This is the magic moment when both bags are turned inside out and then the lining is tucked into the patchwork bag. 

Al forro le puse un bolsillo. se puede ver del lado derecho del forro
I added a pocket to the inside (lining) bag. it can be seen onthe right side of the lining. 


Otra excusa para hacer algo de patchwork y practicar el acolchado libre.
One more excuse to practise patchwork and free motion quilting. .

Ya se puede salir a pasear con ella. 

And we are ready to go out for a walk. with it

FESTIVAL DE MANTAS EN LOS BLOGS Blogger’s Quilt Festival

El sábado me enteré de este Festival de mantas en los blogs, el   Blogger’s Quilt Festival, y decidí participar.
On Saturday I learnt about this Festival, the Blogger's Quilt Festival, and decided to participate. 
Está organizado por Amy's Creative Side.
It is organised  by Amy's Creative Side.
 

Es un Festival virtual, que se viene desarrollando desde 2009. Y más que por los premios - que son interesantes - es por las ideas y por la cantidad de mantas expuestas, clasificadas por categorías según tamaños y técnicas. Inspiración, inspiración, inspiración...
This is a virtual festival, which has been around since 2009, and not only for the prizes - which are interesting -  it is for the ideas and the amount of quilts exhibited and classified into categories according to size and techniques. Inspiration, inspiration, inspiration...

Las categorías son: mantas de tamaños mini, pequeñas y grandes, con apliques, artísticas, acolchadas a mano o a maquina (doméstica), modernas, de diseño original, de colorines, de retales sobrantes.
The categories are as follows: mini, small, large quilts, appliqué, art, hand or home machine quilted, modern, original design, ROYBGBIV, scrappy. 
Yo participo con mi manta  La Perfección de Angelita, en la categoría Mantas Pequeñas.
I am  going to participate with my quilt Angelita's Perfection in the Small Quilts Category.

Expuse esta manta en abril. Entonces expliqué su proceso de confección.
I showed this quilt in April. I then explained how I made this quilt.

Es cuadrada y mide unos 175 cm de lado.
It is approximatyely 68" square. 

Está hecha con telas de algodón compradas en tiendas de Villalba y de EEUU. Y está acolchada por mí en mi Elna 2800.
The fabrics are all cotton and they were bought in different shops in Villalba and the USA. And it was quilted by me on my Elna 2800.

Fue para mí una experiencia integral y lleva el nombre de mi madre porque junto a ella aprendí los fundamentos que me permitieron encarar este trabajo, independientemente de las técnicas específicas de patchwork y acolchado, que todavía son para mí en muchos aspectos habilidades en proceso de aprendizaje.
To me it was a comprehensive experience and it is named after my mother because at her side I learnt the basics that allowed me to set out to make this quilt, independently of the specific piecing and quilting techniques, which in many aspects are to me still Work in Progress.

Aunque antes de éste hice unas 16 mantas, ésta es especial para mí porque desde el principio seguí todos los pasos para hacerla "comme il faut", como se debe hacer...
Although before this one I made some 16 quilts, this one is special because I followed all the  steps in order to make it "comme il faut", as it should be done.

Ahora, lo que hay que hacer es mirar también las otras mantas expuestas en el Festival. Y, a partir del 24 de mayo, se puede votar por la que más te guste de cada categoría.
Now what you have to do is look at the other quilts exhibited in this Festival. And, as from 24 May, vote for the one you like best in each category.

AQUI se pueden ver las piezas expuestas y se le da un "me gusta" (como en Facebook) a la que prefieras. Espero que sea la mía, y sino, disfruta de todo lo que allí se muestra Yo estoy orgullosa de participar al lado de gente a la que admiro y cuyos blogs visito con frecuencia. Me he pasado por anteriores ediciones del festival y hay algunas que son verdaderas obras de arte.
HERE you can look at the quilts shown, and "like" the one you prefer, (just as you do on Facebook). I hope you like mine, but if you don't, do enjoy everything that is shown there. I am proud to participate side by side with some of the people I admire, whose blogs I visit frequently. I have seen previous festivals and some of the quilts are real artworks.

LA PERFECCION DE ANGELITA -- Angelita's perfection

Me propuse hace una "Lone Star" (ver 7/3/2014) y empecé  con ayuda de mi profesora de patchwork, Ana Montes.
Con telas que tenia, y otras que compré y combiné. 
Además de mi profe, busqué ayuda en la Revista American Patchwork & Quilting. En el numero de octubre de 2008, el articulo "Reach for the stars", pag 73, explica cómo hacer una manta "Lone Star", que es inmensa. A propósito, la canción "Reach for the stars" de S-Club 7, que data del 2000, se puede escuchar AQUI.
Bueno, volviendo al tema de las mantas, tuve que adaptar el tamaño a lo que yo iba a hacer, porque la manta que explica la revista es mucho mayor de lo que yo me propuse hacer.
I had in mind making a Lone Star Quilt, and I set out to do it. I started with the help of my patchwork instructor, Ana Montes.
I already had some of the fabrics, I bought others to match.
Apart from my instructor, I found that in the October 2008 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting the article "Reach for the Stars", pg 73, explains how to make a Lone Star Quilt, which is enormous . 
Speaking of "Reach for the Stars", the song by S-Club 7, which was released in 2000 can be heard HERE.

Now back to quilting and patchwork, I had to adapt the size to what I was going to make, as the quilt explained in the magazine was much bigger than what I had in mind doing.

First stage: the diamonds! Cut and sew on the bias. A challenge in itself!
This part of the mission: accomplished!!
