FRUCTÍFERO VERANO Fruitful summer

Se va acabando el verano (aqui en el hemisferio norte) y, si bien no he terminado muchos proyectos, ha sido fructífero.
Summer is almost over (here, in the Northern hemisphere) and, although I have not finished many projects, it has been fruitful.
Junio: La carrera para tener todo listo (material para cursos, colcha para la exposición) para  Sisters, OR dio su fruto, y llegué a tiempo con todo.
durante mi breve visita a Toulouse, Francia pude hacer nuevas amigas de patchwork, que estoy segura van a ser duradeeeeeeeeras. 

June:
The rush to get everything ready (supplies for courses, quilt for show) for Sisters, OR, was successful, and I had everything in time.
During my short visit to Toulouse, France, I made new quilting friends, that I'm sure will last looooooooong.

Las tiendas
Pude visitar algunas tiendas de telas y otros productos para patchwork. La de Moab, en Utah, estaba cerrada. :(

The Stitchin Post, en Sisters, es un paraíso, y de ahí me traje algunos tesoros. 

El vecino pueblo de Bend tambien cuenta con tiendas de patchwork; y en 

Cody, WY estuve en la inmensa tienda Friends & Co., donde pude conseguir algunas telas típicamente "cowboy" y la dueña me regaló un numero de la revista Quilt Sampler con un artículo sobre su tienda...

The shops
I was able to visit a few quilt shops. the quilt shop in Moab, Utah, was closed. :(
The Stitchin Post, in Sisters, is paradise, and I brought back some treasure from there.
The neighobouring town of Bend also has quilt shops, and in
Cody, WY I was in the huge quilt shop, Friends & Co., where I could get some cowboy themed fabric, and the owner gave me a number of Quilt Sampler magazine where there' an article about the shop...

Los libros
Diversas librerías, tanto de libros nuevos 
como antiguos/segunda mano 
me ofrecieron la posibilidad de disfrutar de nuevo material de lectura sobre Patchwork y periféricos.

En Alberton, Montana, hay una curiosa librería donde conseguí unos libritos muy interesantes. 
The books
Several book shops, both new and old/second hand books gave me the opportunity to relish in new reading material about patchwork and related themes.

In Alberton, Montana, there is a quaint little bookshop where I got some very interesting books.








Los cursos

Los tres cursillos/talleres que hice en Sisters, OR en el marco del Quilters Affair, fueron fructiferos, y aunque no terminé ninguno de los proyectos iniciados, estoy en ello, y mostraré los resultados a medida que estén terminados
The courses
The three courses/workshops that I attended in Sisters, OR within the Quilters Affair activity programme, were fruitful, and although I haven't yet finished any of the projects I started, all of them are in progress, and I will show results as soon as they are finished. 

Mi visita a Seattle WA 
fue un intenso encuentro con una bloguera de mi misma edad. La forma de escribir dice mucho de cómo eres: LeeAnn, de Nifty Quilts, es en persona tal cual escribe y muestra su trabajo. El nombre de su blog (nifty=elegante, hábil, ágil) revela cómo es ella.
My visit to Seattle, WA
was an intense meeting with a blogger of my same age. the way one writes tells a lot about what you are like: LeeAnn, from Nifty Quilts, is in person exactly as she writes and shows her work, and the name of her blog (Nifty) reveals how she is.

Agosto:

De visita en Suecia, recibí como regalo otra joya Singer, que me traje a casa en el coche.

August:
While visiting in Sweden, I got this Singer jewel as a gift, and I brought her back home in the car.
Si bien pensaba que no iba a hacer nada de patchwork durante el tiempo en Italia y Suecia, resultó  al final la confección de un juego de almohadones para unas sillas de jardín, y un curso online sobre paisajes con Laura Wasilovsky que tomé en Craftsy.
Although I  thought I was not going to do much during my time in Italy and Sweden, in the end I made a set of cushions for some garden chairs, and I almost completed Laura Wasilovsky's online course on landscapes I took from Craftsy.

Y no me olvido de las personas que conocí durante este intenso verano.

Conclusión:
un verano rico en patchwork, por el combustible concreto (telas, libros, hilos, etc), así como por los conocimientos, inspiración y gente conocida para seguir un año más.
In conclusion:
A patchwork-rich summer, because of the actual fuel in fabric, books, thread, etc., and the knowkedge, inspiration and acquaintances gained to keep me running for one more year.

TOULOUSE Y ALREDEDORES Toulouse and Surroundings

Como dice Ángel Gabilondo en "Por si acaso: Máximas y mínimas", Espasa, 2014, todos los días duran igual, solo para los fallecidos...

As Angel Gabilondo says in "Por si acaso: Máximas y mínimas", Espasa, 2014, every day lasts the same... only for the dead...

Explico: mi día fue distinto, largo, por lo intenso; corto, porque lo bueno e intenso siempre parece más corto. Te gustaría que durara más. 

Let me explain: my day was different. Long beacuse it was intense, short because when something is good and intense, you always get the feeling it is shorter. You would like it to last longer.

Mi amiga Katell, de La Ruche des Quilteuses, organizó una reunión en su casa, en una localidad cercana a Toulouse . Una reunión de amigas amantes del patchwork, con la presencia de una amiga de allende los mares (entiéndase, EEUU): LeeAnn, de nifty quilts. Y tuve el honor de asistir.

Es decir que fue una reunión internacional! 

My friend Katell, from La Ruche des Quilteuses organised a meeting in her house, in a smalll town close to Toulouse. A get together with friends who love patchwork, where there was an overseas friend (from the USA): Lee Ann, from nifty quilts. I and had the honour to be present.

So it was an international meeting!

 Tuve poco tiempo para estar en la ciudad, pero logré darme una vuelta por algunos puntos de interés (para mí), como la Basílica de Saint Sernin, el río (Garona) y su puente "nuevo",  y algunas calles y avenidas céntricas con sus características fachadas de ladrillo rosa...

I didn't have much time to stay in the city, but I managed to take a walk around some points of interest (to me), like the Saint Sernin basilica, the (Garonne) river  and "new" bridge, and some downtown streets and avenues with their characteristic pink brick façades.

Tomé un tren y Christine,  una de sus amigas-abejas de la Ruche, me fue a buscar a la estación. Y juntas llegamos a casa de Katell.

I took a train, and Christine, one of the bee-friends from La Ruche, was at the station to pick me up, and together we arrived at Katell's house.

Ya en su casa el enjambre se puso activo. 

Once at her place, the bee-hive went active.

Cada una mostró sus obras.y todo fue Uau! Ahh! y Ohh! 

Porque cada una lleva a sus colchas su propia expresión y personalidad, y así resultan muy variadas.  Unas son muy, muy grandes, otras muy pequeñitas. Algunas tradicionales, otras modernas. Unas tienen apliques, otras simplemente combinan telas. Unas con diseños tradicionales, otras, modernas, o desafiando las reglas. Unas con exquisitos bordados, otras donde la gracia está en la simple combinación de colores y formas. Unas acolchadas a mano. Otras a maquina.

Una rápida visita a La Ruche des Quilteuses da una idea aproximada de todo lo que pude ver (... y tocar!)...

Each of the bees showed her quilts, and it was all Wow!, Ohh! and Ahh!

Because each of them takes her own personality and way of expressing herself to their quilts. So there was a wide variety . Some of them were very big, others very small. Some traditional, others modern. Ones had appliqué, others just combined fabrics.  Some had traditional designs, others were more modern and defied rules.  Some of them had exquisite embroidery, others found their  gracia in the mere combination of colours and shapes. Some were hand quilted, others machine quilted.

A quick visit to La Ruche des Quilteuses shows an approximate idea of all I had the opportunity to see (...and touch!)...

En definitiva, un festival propio, donde el bono regalo consistió en que se podía tocar!!

Después de un buen rato de mostrar y contar (show and tell) vimos también las obras de la anfitriona, repartidas por las paredes de su casa, sobre mesitas, decorando y poniendo su sello personal en toda la casa. Y su atelier y sus ordenados cajones llenos de telas. Ahhh!

Summing up, that was a whole festival of our own, where the bonus was that we could touch them!

After a good, long show and tell time we also saw our host's work, distributed around the house on walls, small side tables, and decorating it. The same time revealing her own personal touch. And her "atelier" and her well ranged drawers full of fabric. Ahhh!

También recorrimos el jardín y el bien cuidado y variado huerto y frutales. 

We also did a little tour of the garden and well kept and varied vegetable garden and orchard.

Hubo comida rica: cada una había traído su especialidad, y comimos exquisiteces, en un rincón fresco del jardín con la luminosidad del sol del sur de Francia, en un entorno inmejorable.

And delicious food was had: each one had contributed with her own specialty, in a cool corner of the garden under the bright light of the southern France sun, in a superb environment.

Con el café y el postre hubo intercambio de pequeños souvenirs.

With the coffee and pastries came the exchange of souvenirs.

Antes de retornar, breve visita a la barca "La violeta", donde todo es de color violeta y los  productos que ofrecen son todos derivados de esa flor, representativa de la ciudad de Toulouse. 

Before taking the plane back, short visit to "La Violette", where everything is violet and the porducts offered are all derived from that flower, which is representative of the city of Toulouse.

Y lo mejor: la experiencia vivida y la emoción, y toda la inspiración y  las posibilidades que se abren al conocer a tanta gente tan interesante y con la que se puede seguir creciendo en la parte patchwork de la vida. 

And the best: the experience we had, and the emotion, and all the inspiration and possibilites that open up when getting to know such nice and interesting people with whom  to continue growing on the patchwork and quilting aspect of life.

Y, como dijo Humphrey Bogart en la escena final Casablanca: este es el comienzo de una hermosa amistad.

And, as Humphrey Bogart said in Casablanca: this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
