I've been placing labels since several quilts ago, on the back of the quilt.
La etiqueta ofrece datos que a la larga pueden ser importantes. Permite conocer quién confeccionó la manta, cuándo, con qué materiales, si tiene un nombre (algunas mantas, sobre todo las que se presentan a exposiciones, llevan un nombre). También permite dedicarle la manta a alguien, si la estamos regalando, y el destinatario tiene información sobre cómo cuidarla.
Labels supply data which can prove to be important in the long run. It lets you know who made the quilt, when, with what materials, if it has been given a name (some quilts -especially the ones entered in competitions- carry a name). They also let you dedicate a quilt if it is being given as a present, and the recipient gets information on how to take care of it.
He leído historias (AQUÍ)de cómo se devolvió a su dueño alguna manta perdida en una catástrofe, o cómo se terminó alguna manta que había quedado inconclusa, porque fue posible llegar a sus autores originales o a sus familiares siguiendoles la pista. Y todo gracias a las etiquetas.
I have read stories (HERE) on how a quilt lost during a natural disaster was returned to its original owner; how an unfinished quilt was finally finished as it was possible to trace its original makers or their relatives. All thanks to the labels.

¿Para qué poner una etiqueta? Why label a quilt?
- Para mi, para acordarme de cuando la hice. Y para que lo sepan los demás...
- Cuando la regalo, para que el destinatario sepa quién la hizo y cuándo
- Para que el destinatario se sienta identificado y la sienta suya
- Para que se sepa cómo cuidarla
- Para llevar un registro de lo que voy confeccionando
- Para darle el toque final, de terminación
- Para asignarle un nombre (a algunas les pongo nombre)
- For me to remember when I made it. And for the others to know...
- When I'm giving it to somebody, so that the recipient knows who made it and when
- For the recipient to feel identified with it and feel it his7her own
- For the recipient to know how to take care of it
- To keep a record of what I make
- To give it the final, finishing touch
- To give it a name (I name some of them)
Las primeras mantas que hice, simplemente las marqué con rotulador indeleble, para recordar cuando se hicieron. Bueno... Ahora ya no haría eso...
The first quilts I made were simply marked with a permanent marker, just to remember when they were made. Well... I wouldn't do that now...
