BOLSOS II Bags II

A lo largo de 2013 hice varios bolsos. 
I made several bags in 2013.

Para practicar la técnica de "paper piecing", hice un bloque (bueno, en realidad, dos, uno para cada lado del bolso...) combinando las formas del libro de Carol Doak, sobre como hacer las estrellas de 9-patch, 

In order to practice paper piecing techniques, I made a block (in fact, I made two, one for each side of the bag...) combining the patterns shown in Carol Doak's book on how to make 9-patch stars. 

Hice dos estrellas de 35 x 35 cm que uní, dejando un fuelle de unos 5cm para hacer un bolso en el que meter muchas cosas. Acolché varias líneas paralelas alrededor de las puntas de la estrella, para realzarlas, y reforzar los laterales del bolso. I made two 35cm (14" approx.) square stars which I put together, leaving a 5cm (2") gusset so that it can hold lots of things. The quilting was done with parallel lines around the star points, to make them stand out and also to strengthen the sides of the bag.

Hice también un bolso de tela vaquera.  
I also made a blue denim bag.

Corté unos trocitos de cuero y con el piro-grabador de Martín hice varias etiquetas que tengo guardadas para futuros bolsos. 
I cut out several pieces of soft leather and made a few labels with Martin's pyrograph tool, and I keep them for future bags. 

El siguiente es un bolso "clutch" de fiesta, que hace juego con unos zapatos para una boda. 
Next is a party bag clutch, which matches a pair of high heel shoes for a wedding.

Hecho con una cinta de raso plegada (donde hace los picos). Luego le añadí unas bolitas de cristal para añadirle peso a la tapa. It's made with one long piece of satin ribbon, which I folded (where the tips are). I then added some beads to add weight to the flap.

No tenía intención de que el siguiente fuera muy de vestir, pero me salió casi "de fiesta" porque la tela rosa, casi fucsia, es (un retal de) seda gruesa . La tira para colgar (que se puede escamotear dentro y usarlo como "clutch") es de raso.

I had no intention whatsoever to make the following one a "party" bag, but it almost is, as the flashing pink, almost a fuchsia is (a scrap of) heavy silk. The strap is made of satin, can be hidden inside the bag and the bag used as a clutch.

El bolso negro de Navidad

La pasada Navidad se me antojó un bolso negro. Pequeño. Para llevar a esas cenas que tienes, a las que en realidad no es necesario llevar muchas cosas. Sólo el teléfono, un pañuelo (de papel o de tela - es invierno) y los documentos. 
The black bag for Christmas
This past Christmas season I fancied a black bag. A small one. For those times you go out for dinner, and you don't really to carry many things. Just your phone, a handkerchief or paper tissues - it's winter- and ID / driving licence. 

Teniendo la experiencia de los bolsos anteriores, éste fue totalmente diseño mío. I already had the experience from previous bags, so this one was totally my own design.

Moraleja: el diseño propio está muy bien, y te aseguras de que es único,  pero te lleva más tiempo hacerlo que si lo copias de por ahí y simplemente sigues las instrucciones. Porque lo estás diseñando, porque lo haces a golpe de prueba y error. Lleva más tiempo y esfuerzo. Pero...¿quién te quita lo bailado?

The morale of the story is: your own design is OK, and you are certain what you are doing is unique, but it takes longer to make than copying from some pattern you find and following instructions. Because you are in the process of designing it yourself, and you do it by force of trial and error. But then... Who can take that away from you?
