Me encantan los bolsos

Siempre me ha gustado hacerme bolsos que fueran originales, distintos en algo de los comprados. Y se pierden en el tiempo y en mi memoria la cantidad y los diseños que he hecho. Recuerdo uno de ellos con flores bordadas en petit point. Recuerdo otro, tejido a ganchillo (o crochet) con hilo de atar (o piolín, en Argentina) en el que la tapa se cerraba entrelazando múltiples cadenitas tejidas en hilo, y las cosas se metían entre esas cadenitas. Era ingenioso, imposible de que te robaran algo de dentro del bolso, y se podía lavar sin problemas. No sé qué se hizo de él, ni he vuelto a ver el modelo. Otro de cuero, que hice del tamaño adecuado para que cupieran los libros (no se llevaba mochila en esas épocas)...

I love hand bags
I have always liked making handbags for myself; handbags that were original, different from the bought ones, one of a kind bags. And I lose track of how many I have made and when I made them. I can recall one, which had a petit point (or maybe gros point...) embroidered bunch of flowers. I can remember another one which was crochet (or hook needle) knit with normal twine or cord, which was quite ingenious. It was impossible to get things stolen from it, and it could be easily washed. I don't know what became of it, nor have I seen the model again. There was also a leather one, which I made in a size to hold my books, as we did not use rucksacks at the time...

Pero eso fue hace mucho.

Ahora hago bolsos aprovechando técnicas de patchwork.

Como este bolso con técnica crazy quilting, con bordaditos y bolitas sobre un fondo de corbatas de seda.
But that was long ago.
I now make bags using patchwork techniques.

Y éste fue uno de los primeros trabajos que hice cuando comencé a hacer patchwork... Está acolchado, y con círculos aplicados pero no se aprecia muy bien. Mucho que aprender...
And this one was one of the first projects I completed when I started doing patchwork. It is quilted and has some circles but is is not easy to see them. Still a lot to learn...

Me gustan los diseños inteligentes, y éste es muy simple y fácil de hacer. Adapté la longitud de las asas a mis necesidades. La idea es que se cierra sobre sí mismo, pasando el asa larga por debajo de la otra. Y una vez cruzadas las asas, al colgarlo queda cerrado (protección antirrobo). I like intelligent designs, and this one is simple and easy to make. I adapted the length of the straps to my needs. The idea is that it is closed by crossing the long strap under the other, and when you hang it, it stays closed (ant-theft device). .

Usé tela de tapicería del lado del revés, porque los colores me gustaban más. Lo forré con forro común, aunque hubiera venido mejor una tela con un poco más de cuerpo.

I used upholstery fabric on the wrong side, As the colours were much nicer. I lined it with normal, every day lining, although it would have been preferable to use a heavier, sturdier type of fabric.

Más adelante, hice un curso online (Craftsy, Diseña tu propio bolso) con Brett Bara. Con las técnicas explicadas en este curso se pueden construir distintos tipos de bolsos: cómo reforzar la tela para que quede un bolso sólido, como poner las asas, el cierre, como construir el forro y que quede "profesional", etc. Tambien se pueden aplicar las técnicas a otros formatos
I also took an online course (Craftsy, Design your own bag) taught by Brett Bara. With the techniques explained in this course you can make different types of bags: how to reinforce the fabric so that it is tough, how to fix the straps, the zipper or closures, the lining, so that it looks "professional". You can also use the techniques for making other types of bags.

A partir de este bolso, comencé a poner a los bolsos una etiqueta en cuero pirograbado, "ana'sbags".

Me gustó un bolso que subió Metzy a los proyectos realizados por la gente que siguió el curso Design your bag, en Craftsy; e hice mi propia versión. 
I liked Metzy's bag, uploaded on the Craftsy platform as one of the projects made for the Design your bag course. I made my own version.


Este es el mío. Está hecho con una chaqueta vaquera infantil. Detalles de encaje y puntillas de mi abuela.
This is my creation. It's made with a children's jeans jacket. The lace in the details was my grandmother's. 

Parte de atrás. Con los puños de la chaqueta vaquera, hice las tiras centrales, que cierran el bolsillo exterior. Back of bag. With the jacket cuffs, I made the closures for the exterior pocket, which is in the middle.

Parte superior, con detalles en el frontal, herrajes en bronce y cierre de cremallera. Top of bag, with some of the front details, bronze hardware and zipper.

En estos bolsos, las mil cosas que llevamos tienden a irse al fondo y mezclarse con el resto, y luego te tiras unos cuantos minutos intentando "pescar" las llaves del fondo.
The thousands of things we carry in these bags tend to find their way to the very bottom and get mixed up with the rest, and then you waste precious minutes "fishing" your keys out of the bottom.
