Esto no es patchwork. Esto es jardinería.  ¿Y qué tiene que ver la jardinería con el patchwork? 

This is not patchwork. This is gardening. And what has gardening to do with patchwork? 

Esto comienza en enero- febrero, más o menos, cuando hay que podar la lavanda. Mi vecino Javier, que sabe mucho de esto, y tiene un blog con unas fotos preciosas de flores y plantas, diría que debería ser más precisa...

This starts around January - February, when the lavender bush has to be pruned. My neighbour Javier, who knows a lot about this and has a blog showing beautiful flowers and plants, would say I should be more precise...

En enero in January

La mata de lavanda ha crecido demasiado porque tardé en comprender que hay que podar más, y con mayor precisión (Ay! Javier, ¡cuánta razón tienes!!). Pero ahora es tarde porque hay que podar la lavanda por encima de la parte leñosa del tallo. Si no la has podado en su momento no se mantendrá bajita, como en los cultivos de lavanda de la Provenza.

This shrub has grown too big because I realised late that it needs to be pruned more and more precisely (Yes, Javier, you are SO right!!!) .

But is is now too late because the shrub has to be pruned above the woody part of the stems. If you haven't pruned timely it will not stay low, as the cultures in the French region of Provence...

Finales de junio End of June

Así que mi mata de lavanda es bastante alta. Pero aún así produce una interesante cantidad de perfumadas flores azul-liláceas sobre finales de junio.

Y todos los años cosecho esas flores y aprovecho las flores de lavanda para hacer ramitos-paquetitos de lavanda o bolsitas.

So my lavender plant is quite tall. But as it is, it still yields an interesting amount of perfumend bluish-purplish flowers around the end of June. And every year I harvest the flowers to make little bunches, packets or to fill sachets.

Se venden bolsitas de lavanda con excusa de aromaterapia y beneficios para la salud. Así dicho, parece algo muy sofisticado y difícil de tener y obtener.

Pero son fáciles de hacer. Y si uno tiene una mata de lavanda en el jardín, mas fácil todavía.

Lavender sachets are sold with the excuse of aromatherapy and benefits for yur health. This sounds sophisticated and difficult to obtain. But they are easy to make. And, if you have a plant, it is even easier.

Bolsitas de lavanda  Lavender sachets.

Tomar dos trozos de tela del tamaño deseado, con el derecho de las telas enfrentados, coserlos entre si por el perímetro, dejando unos 8-10 cm sin coser.

Darlo vuelta para que quede el derecho de la tela por fuera.

Rellenarlo con flores de lavanda secas.

Cerrar los 8-10 cm de abertura con un punto escondido.

Place two pieces of fabric (the size you wish) with right sides together and stitch them along the perimeter, leaving some 8-10 cm (approx. 3-5 ") without sewing.

Turn it inside out. The right side of fabric should now be on the outside.

Fill the bag with dry lavender flowers.

Sew up the opening with a blind stitch.

La siguiente es una bolsita a la que le dí forma de corazón, le até una cinta para poder colgarla y decoré con unas puntadas locas (tipo "crazy quilting")

Here you can see a small satchet in the shape of a heart, with a piece of ribbon from which to hang it and decorated in a "crazy quilting" style.

Como ya habrán inevitablemente imaginado, esto admite infinidad de variaciones y terminaciones, desde bordados sobre la tela, abalorios, decoraciones pintadas, hasta unir diversos trozos de tela a modo de patchwork, y con eso hacer las bolsitas.

As you may have inevitably imagined, this admits a vast number of variations and finishings, from embroidery, beads, painted decorations to piecing the patchwork way.

Llevan un ojal y un botoncito para poder colgarlas del travesaño de una percha en el armario.

They have a small buttonhole and button to hang them from a hanger in your wardrobe.

Con trozos de otras telas, restos de puntillas, fieltro, tul se hacen ventanas, cortinas, puertas, que se pueden aplicar a mano, o a máquina con alguno de esos puntos decorativos que no usamos muy frecuentemente.

Windows, curtains, doors can be made with bits of other fabrics, remnants of lace, felt, tulle. And these can be hand appliquéed, or by machine, using those fancy decorative stitches we don't frequently use.

Se pueden poner también debajo de la almohada para perfumar la cama.

Además de perfumar, ahuyentan a las polillas.

They can also be placed under the  pillow to perfume your bed.
Besides scenting, they chase the moths away.
