MÁS VACACIONES DE PATCHWORK More patchwork holidays

Holidays are addictive... Who doesn't like them?
Anyway, when you're deeply into patchwork, even though you are on holidays, and circumstances do not allow you to do much, there's always something to see to keep in contact with it.
Such as visiting fabric and other crafts stores.
At the Clignancourt flea market in Paris I saw some pieces of fabric which were 100%n cotton, really vintage, but a bit too expensive for my budget...
I also visited some shops. Variety of fabrics and sewing notions are repeated all over, some of them better organised and presented. but to me they all have some sort of attraction, be it their price or their evident support to this activity of cutting pieces of cloth and then putting them together again...
At the Jönköping (Sweden) Ikea store  I bought more than 2m (2, 18 yards) of this beautiful 100% cotton for around 4,50 U$S.

I'll make good use of it, and if not, it makes a nice tablecloth.

PATCHWORK EN VACACIONES... Patchwork on holidays...

Las vacaciones son las vacaciones.
Holidays are holidays.

I do little patchwork and quilting these days (I'm only embroidering a label for a quilt I'm giving as a present), butI do not stop thinking about patchwork when I' m on holidays.

Y ultimamente he visto esto:
And lately I've seen this:
The floor at the entrance of the Tekniska Högskolan in Jönköping, Sweden.
This could well be a design for a modern quilt.

Or this "ribbon" on the drainage cover on a pedestrian street in Flensburg, Germany.

I've also seen this small jewel at the Clignancourt Flea Market in Paris. This small purse was surely aimed to affluent tourists, as the label was written in English!!

In Trento, Italy, (this one was not taken these last holidays) the cobblestones on Dante square, just across the railway station has this "clam" design.

And once walked this square, this design can be seen on the floor of the entrance hall in one of the hotels.

And this "ribbon" worked in venetian mosaic at a bus stop.

I admire those who are able to capture and reflect what they see on quilts or panels, cutting out little pieces of fabric that stitched together take the images their eyes see to pieces of art which are beautiful to look at while keeping you warm at the same time.
I hope some day I'll be able to make something after this inspiration...
Do you see patchwork on everyday items that have nothing to do with it?

ESTUCHES (COSMÉTICOS, MONEDAS, ETC.) Y OTROS RECEPTÁCULOS (Cosmetic, coin, etc.) cases and other receptacles

Who (among those of us who like making these things) has not made bags and mini bags, purses, vanity cases, pencil cases, cosmetics bags or cases, make-up bags, pouches, covers, slip covers, sheaths and sleeves of all types and for various uses?

With scraps given by a friend I made several cosmetics bags, some with zippers, some with a flap and hoop and loop closures. They were all similar, but completely different, just like my friends... They were Christmas presents.

JUGUETE NUEVO (VIEJO) New (old) toy

On the occasion of Villalba's annual festivities, there was a street market along the main street and surroundings.
This time the finding was... this small beauty:

PROTEGER LA MUSICA... Protecting music...

One of my sons is going to be abroad for the next school year on an ERASMUS scholarship. A while ago he made a cittern , which is an instrument similar or like a mandonlin. (I think they are family, but I'm not sure about their family relationships...) And as he wants to take it with him; he asked me to make a protective case for it. For those who may be interested, you can see the cittern construction process (only ins Spanish but good photos).

So I got down to business.
Utilicé las técnicas propias del patchwork. I used patchwork and quilting techniques.
First: although those of us who like patchwork LOVE  buying fabric even though we do not need it, and we always want more and more, and we impulse buy , this time I used an old pair of jeans. He wanted it to be low key (music, Ha Ha...) so I made it blue.
Second: in order to protect the instrument it had to be padded, so I used the quilting guide on my sewing machine, and quilted the denim.
Thirdly I pieced denim pieces to make a long strip to go around.

I attached a zip. (He says next time I have to add a flap underneath the zip to avoid scratching the instrument.)

Y helo aquí, listo para viajar.
And here it is, ready for travelling.
This is not the first time I protect music...
The following is quite different  and I made it for Andy two years ago when he also went to study on an ERASMUS scholarship. I made this one for his Ukulele. I used an old Hawaian shirt, and it turned out a bit more colourful and snazzy, although the instrument to protect is of less quality

I used the shirt's strip of buttons and buttonholes to make the closure. I did not have to make them...

The Hawaian flowers made me quilt it following their pattern, and where the fabric was solid, I quilted it repeating the pattern.
The strip for hanging is made out of two piedces joined by hardware that also allows adjusting its length.

A while ago I also made some protective padding for the back of a banjo and an electric guitar. (By the way, the electric guitar was also made by Martin.) They are made to avoid scratching the back of the instrument when you are playing and you are wearing a belt with a buckle or metal embellishments.

It's got a bias binding all around and is fastened to the guitar by some elasticpieces tied to the guitar's hardwarw

I left the marks of the worn out jeans on purpose and it gives it a "rustic" touch.

This thing of using old jeans parte that you would normally dump for something that is not only decorative but also useful, makes it highly gratifying, almost as buying fabric...
