SUPERNOVA

En uno de los cursos a los que asistí en Sisters,OR, hicimos la "Supernova", una forma moderna de plantearte el diseño de una colcha. In one of the courses I took at Sisters,OR, we made the "Supernova" quilt, which is a modern way of addressing the design of a quilt.

Jacquie nos dio a todas un mismo patrón, bastante detallado, a partir del cual cada uno puede crear su propia versión, resultando tantas versiones como creadoras.

Jacquie gave us all one same pattern, which is quite detailed, and on this pattern each one can create her own version, ending up with as many versions as creators.

El trabajo debe ser sistemático, pero es a la vez libre y divertido, y terminas la clase con la sensación de haber hecho mucho y con ganas de terminarlo cuanto antes.  

Work has to be done systematically, but it is at the same time freeing and great fun, and you end the class with the feeling of having progressed a lot and wanting to finish it as soon as possible.

Las escuelas de negocios enseñan que las debilidades se pueden transformar  en oportunidades.

Es lo que hice cuando la tela que tenía para la parte de abajo, que era de una sábana bajera ajustable, no era suficientemente ancha. El color era perfecto, y de hecho la cantidad era suficiente, pero en trozos. También me habían sobrado unos bloques. Esta combinación me proporcionó la oportunidad. Al final, ¿qué es el patchwork sino?Business schools teach students that weaknesses can be turned into opportunities. That's what I did when the backing fabric I had, which was from a fitted sheet, was not wide enough. The colour was perfect, and the amount enough, but in chunks. I also had block leftovers. This combination provided the opportunity. In the end, what is patchwork if not?

Y por último el acolchado, con el que me lo pasé muy bien!! Rayos saliendo de la explosión de la supernova, con burbujas hirvientes que se alejan del centro. Ja!

And lastly I had a great time quilting it. Rays coming from the supernova explosion, with boiling bubbles coming away from the centre. Ha!  

Aquí estamos en SOQS 2015 (Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show). Nos encontramos por la calle y nos sacamos una foto. Jacquie es una persona dinámica, divertida y alegre, que te contagia entusiasmo.  

And here we are at the 2015 SOQS (Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show). We met in the street and took a photo. Jacquie is a very dynamic, cheerful person, great fun to be with, and her enthusiasm is contagious.

Ahora es primavera aquí, y bajo el sol, las flores combinan bien con los colores de mi supernova. 

It's spring here now, and under the sun, the flowers combine well with the colours of my supernova.

EL ARCO The Arch

2015 fue un año de muchos kilómetros y millas recorridos, que me dieron la oportunidad de abrir los ojos, la la imaginación, y el corazón.
2015 was a year of many kilometres and miles travelled, which opened my eyes, my imagination and my heart. 

Muchos fueron los paisajes que me atrajeron y me dejaron prendada. 
Arches: el Parque Nacional de los Arcos , en Utah, fue uno de los que más, y allí el Arco Delicado, por el esfuerzo de llegar hasta él, por la sensación de logro después de la caminata.
Many were the landscapes that attracted me and captivated me. Arches: the National Park, in Utah, was one of the highlights, and there, the Delicate Arch, for the effort in getting there, for the feeling of achievement once you walked up to it. 

Por eso, cada vez que contemplo esta imagen tengo el buen recuerdo del calor, el sudor y la recompensa de verlo de cerca y en su entorno grandioso.

That's why every time I see this image, I have the pleasant remembrance of the heat, the sweat and the award of getting to see it from close up and in its magnificent environment. 

Muchas son las fotos que lo han representado, pero la experiencia vivida es mía, está dentro de mi. Nadie me la robará. Ni tampoco el gusto de poder recordarlo cada vez.
Many photos have depicted it, but the experience I lived is mine, nobody can steal it from me. Nor is the pleasure of remembering it each time.
Aquí se pueden ver algunos detalles, que aprendí durante tan memorable viaje. 
Here you can see some details, that I learnt during that memorable trip.

Se pueden ver trocitos de tela un poco desflecados, deshilachados. La idea de pegar rápidamente con pegamento de barra los trozos de tela la saque de Edrica Huws, de quien tuve conocimiento gracias a LeeAnn, de Nifty Quilts. 
No hice un trabajo de apliqué de precisión, ni cuidadosa elección de colores hasta dar con el tono perfecto, ni lineas precisas siguiendo la foto al pie de la letra, simplemente un surtido de cachitos de tela. y a jugar con ellos. 

You can see raw pieces of fabric. The idea of quickly pasting with glue the bits of fabric came from Edrica Huws, whom I learnt about through LeeAnn, from Nifty Quilts. 
I did not do any accurate appliqué work, or colour audition, there are no precise lines following the photo, just an array of bits of fabric, and play with them.

Se pueden ver las puntadas salvajes: sin controlar el largo de puntada, simplemente acolchado libre, y cuando digo libre es libre, donde la máquina y mis manos me llevaban. 
You can see wild stitching: no length control, just free - and I mean free - motion quilting, where the machine and my hands led me.

Quizás no sea la mejor obra pictórica, pero disfruté mucho haciéndolo.

TARJETEROS Card Holders

Los hice hace tiempo, el año pasado... pero no había tenido tiempo para compartirlos. 
I made these a while ago, last year... but I hadn't had time to share them.  

Útiles, para quienes todavía tenemos y usamos tarjetas, y todavía no lo hacemos TODO online...
Sé que en unos años, ya no serán necesarios, pero por ahora...
Useful for those of us who still have and use cards, those of us who do not yet do EVERYTHING online...
I know they won't be necessary in a few years' time, but for the timebeing... 

Hice unos cuantos, en varios colores, y los repartí entre mis amigas.
I made a few of them, and distributed them among my friends. 

Son para llevar esas tarjetas que no son las de crédito, ni documentos tipo DNI o permiso de conducir en el bolso o cartera. 
(Pero ahora que lo pienso...)They are for carrying those cards that are not credit card, or ID, or driving licence, in your bag or purse.
(But now come think of it...) 

En principio, son para las tarjetas de afiliación, los tickets de descuento (que siempre has puesto en otro sitio, no en el que necesitas cuando los necesitas....
In principle, they are for those affiliation cards, discount tickets, etc. that you usually place somewhere else but not where you need them when you need them...) 

Pero ahora que lo pienso... ¿por qué no?
But now come think of it...Why not? 
Si! También para documentos identificativos, cuando sales por un rato y no necesitas llevarlos todos.
Yes! also for those ID cards when you go out for a short while and do not need to take them all with you.

MOMENTOS DE NAVIDAD Christmas Moments

Navidad... Christmas time... 
En esta época de mi vida, es estar con la familia, comer cosas ricas, preparar regalitos, compartir momentos...
At this time of my life, it is being with family, eating nice things, preparing presents, sharing moments... 
Este año, a Luci Santa Claus le trajo una máquina de coser.
This year, Santa Claus brought Luci a sewing machine. 
Y la máquina se vino con nosotros a Mijas, Málaga (para los que no están en España, Andalucia).
And the machine travelled with us to Mijas, Malaga (for those of you who are not in Spain, it is in the region of Andalucia). 
Así que aquí hemos probado y practicado con la nueva máquina.
So we have tried it and practised with it. 

Sólo teníamos unos retales pequeños. Y para probar la maquina había que hacer algo, no solo muestras...We only took with us a few small scraps. and to try the machine something had to be made with it, not just samples... 
Por otra parte, haciendo la compra en un supermercado local aproveché una oferta de cremalleras (cierres relámpago).
Lo mejor de ambos mundos: máquina de coser, tiempo libre y trocitos de tela: la felicidad del patchwork!!
Besides, on doing some shopping at a supermarket I found and bought a set of zippers. Best of both worlds: sewing machine, free time, and fabric scraps: patchwork bliss!!

Resultaron 3 pequeños porta-pequeñas cosas: 2 para los auriculares y uno para tarjetas en un ratito de una tarde lluviosa (20 minutos c/u)
Three small cases resulted in a short time during a rainy afternoon: 2 earplugs cases, one cards holder. 


Para llevar esas tarjetas que no son las de crédito, pero que tienes muchas: de afiliación a la gasolinera, supermercado, farmacia y diversas tiendas. También se puede llevar el carnet de conducir o el DNI.

For carrying those cards  which are not your credit or back cards, but those numerous supermarket, service station, pharmacy and other shops' affiliation cards.  You can also carry your ID or driver's licence.  

Hice un ligero "acolchado" con costuras paralelas.

I did a "light" quilting, with parallel lines.

Caben unas 4 (y hasta 5) en cada lado. Lo doblas y ya las tarjetas no se desparraman en el fondo del bolso.

Four (and up to 5) cards fit into each side. You fold it and there you are: cards do not get scattered in the depths of your purse.

Los mini estuches son para llevar los auriculares, que se suelen enredar y mezclar con otros objetos que se van al fondo del bolso.

The mini cases are meant for carrying earplugs, whcih usually tangle and mix with other objects that slide down to the bottom of your bag/ purse.

calendario de adviento

El año pasado,  mi buena amiga Katell de La Ruche des Quilteuses, mostró  un calendario de Adviento que venía acompañando a su familia durante muchos años y que pensaba que iba a ser la ultima vez que lo ponía...
Last year, my good friend Katell from La Ruche des Quilteuses, showed an Advent calendar that had been in the family for many years which she tought would be the last time it was going to be up.

Esto, unido a que mi hija me pidió que le hiciera un calendario de adviento, culmina en este día, en que ella lo estrena, y yo lo celebro. Celebro sobre todo que los más jóvenes prolonguen esta tradición.

This, together with my daughter's request to make an Advent calendar, ends today, when she is using it for the first time, and I celebrate it. Above all, I celebrate young people wanting to keep this tradition.

Mi calendario tomó como inspiración inicial el de Katell, pero no en punto de cruz, sino en patchwork, y adaptado a mis circunstancias:
Quería terminarlo, y terminado está... Pero está concebido para admitir modificaciones, que introduciré en el futuro...

My calendar was initially inspired in Katell's, but mine is not cross stitch, but patchwork, and adapted to my circumstances:

I wanted to finish it, and finished I have... But it is conceived to admit modifications, which I'll do in the future... 

Le añadiré los adornitos también en fieltro, que este año son comprados y ya están metidos en sus correspondientes bolsillos. Creo que también añadiré más estrellas doradas en el cielo.
I'll add the ornaments, which I plan to make in felt, and this year are store bought and are already tucked in the pockets. I think I'll also add some golden stars in the sky. 

Y por supuesto tiene  bolsillos, para llenar con lo que quiera, pequeños bocados o regalitos para empezar el día y recordarnos que la Navidad está más cerca cada día que pasa.
And of course it has pockets, to be filled with whatever, small bites or little presents to start the day and remind us that Christmas is one day closer every day.
