CAJITAS DE TELA Fabric Boxes

Hace tiempo ya que están terminadas...

La idea la encontré en el blog de Ayumi, en Pink Penguin, publicada hace varios años ya... Y la adapt
Adapté la idea.
I found the idea at Ayumi's blog, in Pink Penguin, published a few years ago... and I adapted it. 

Las cestitas o cajitas están acolchadas de manera simple. El acolchado refuerza los lados y permite que se mantengan armadas.
The little boxes, or baskets are quilted in a simple cross hatch quilting. Quilting  them reinforces the sides and helps them stand upright.

Diferentes tamaños. Different sizes.
Para regalar a mis amigas las llené de galletas hechas por mí.
To give to my friends I filled them with home made biscuits.

Por una parte Speculatius de canela, con diseños en realce hechos con un molde especial para estampar galletas.
Some of them were cinnamon Spekulatius  I stamped the Spekulatius with a special stamp for cookies.

Y otras eran las tradicionales galletas con pepitas de chocolate.
And the others were traditional chocolate chip cookies.

Ahora me doy cuenta de que las tendría que haber pintado con huevo... (aunque no es obligatorio...)
Now I realise I should have painted them with a little whisked egg... (though it is not compulsory...)

Cuando se acaben las galletas, las cajitas de tela se pueden redirigir hacia otros usos.
Vacías, como compartimiento dentro de un cajón.
Once the biscuits are gone, they can redirect the fabric baskets towards other uses.

guardar lápices,
cosméticos y jabones pequeños,
collares, pendientes, pulseras ...

NAVIDAD Christmas

En mi familia la tradición siempre ha sido instalar el árbol de Navidad el 8 de diciembre. No sé si porque era día festivo, el cumpleaños de mi abuela o por el día de la Virgen, pero así es la tradición; e intento mantenerla.
In my family the tradition has always been to set the Christmas tree on the 8th December. I don't know if it was because it used to be a holiday, my Granny's birthday or Virgin's Day, but that's what traditions are for and I try to keep them.





En este año de nido vacío puse el árbol y otras decoraciones el día 8, como siempre. Habrá menos gente joven entrando y saliendo, pero la familia estará reunida igualmente. No alrededor de este árbol, pero reunida.
This year of empty nesting I set the Christmas tree and other decorations on the 8th, as always. There will be less young people coming and going, but the family will nevertheless get together. Not around this tree, but will be together.

Menos recargado y menos bolas que en años anteriores.
Less heavily decorated and less baubles than previous years.

Y también coloqué una falda (o faldón) que va alrededor de la base del árbol.
And I also placed a tree skirt around the base of the tree. 

Obviamente de patchwork. Con cintas para atar en el cuello y en el borde, aunque en realidad no son necesarias.
Obviously patchwork. With ribbons to fasten it at the neck and borders, though I really don't need them.

Totalmente hecha de retazos de tela, y por una vez aproveché los puntos decorativos que trae la maquina de coser y que nunca uso...

Totally made of fabric scraps, and I got to use those fancy decorative stitches that the sewing machine has and I never use...

El fondo es más verde de lo que se ve. (y la foto no es la mejor del mundo...). 

The background is greener than it looks (and the photo is not the best in the world...).

Así es como hemos entrado en modo Navidad!

EXPOSICIÓN Y ENCUENTRO de PATCHWORK EN VILLALBA Patchwork exhibition and meeting in Villalba

Entre los días 20, 21, 22 de noviembre se organizó en Collado Villalba un encuentro y exposición de patchwork.
On 20, 21 and 22 November there was a Patchwork Meeting and Exhibition in Collado Villalba, Madrid.  
Como me interesa el patchwork y es la ciudad donde vivo, decidí hacer una colcha-tapiz con una imagen típica de Villalba: la Calle Real en el punto donde cruza al Río Guadarrama.
As I'm interested in patchwork and it is the town where I live, I decided to make a wall quilt with a typical image from Villalba: where the Real street goes over the Guadarrama River, 

Saqué una foto de la escena en uno de los días en los que se instala un mercadillo artesanal y de antigüedades / cosas de segunda mano, es decir un rastro o mercado de pulgas. Y compuse mi trabajo a partir de ella.
I took a photo of the place on a day when there is a street flea market  with crafts and antiques/second hand articles; and composed my work starting from it.


Utilicé la técnica  "raw edge" appliqué, y luego acolché.
I used a raw edge appliqué technique and then I quilted.

Me gusta siempre la idea del agua, y me atrae el intentar representarla,  aunque reconozco que está entre las cosas más difíciles de representar. No obstante, lo intenté.
I've always liked the idea of water and tried to represent it, although I acknowledge it is among the most difficult things to depict. However, I gave it a go.
1 (y solo 1) hilo dorado

One (and only one) golden thread.

Los dos arcos del puente siempre me atrajeron. ¿Será porque son arcos? ¿Porque del hueco oscuro salen el agua y la luz? No sé...
I've always been attracted by the two arches. Is it because they are arches, because water and light come out of the dark hollows?  I really don't know...

y estaba muy contenta porque recibí un premio!!!
And I was very happy because I got a prize!!

EXPOSICIÓN EN VILLALBA Quilt Show in Villalba

Los días 20, 21 y 22 se organiza una Exposición y Encuentro de Patchwork en Villalba, Madrid.
On 20, 21 and 22 november there is a Quilt Show and Gathering in Villalba, Madrid.

BLOQUE ASTRONOMICO Astronomical block

En febrero hablé de la astonauta Karen Nyberg y su propuesta para confeccionar una colchas con bloques con una estrella como motivo.
In February I wrote about Astronaut Karen Nyberg and her challenge to makequilts with star themed blocks.
Había que confeccionar un bloque de 9 pulgadas (unos 23 cm) y enviarlo a Houston.
The challenge was to make a 9 inch (23cm) block and send it to Houston.

Envié uno, y a finales de octurbre, en el Festival Internacional de Houston, en Texas, los mas de 2000 bloques recibidos fueron cosidos en colchas de 8 x 10 bloques c/u..
I sent one, and at the end of October, at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas, the more than 2000 blocks were exhibited, stitched together in 10 x 8 block  quilts.  
Al principio creí que mi bloque no iba a aparecer, pero allí estaba, junto a muchísimos más.
At first, I thought that my block was not going to appear, but it was there indeed, together with  many others. 

Y la astronauta estuvo allí  para presentar las colchas y exponer la obra conjunta.
The astronaut was there to present the quilts and the whole of the joint work.



Había bloques de todas partes del mundo.
Blocks came from all over the world. 
Karen Nyberg contó su experiencia a bordo de la estación Espacial Internacional.
Karen Nyberg told her experience on board the International Space Station. 
Este es el bloque original, confeccionado por ella en el espacio, que dio pie a este movimiento:

A continuación, yo también con orgullo muestro mi bloque astronómico. 4ª fila, 5ª columna. En colores azul y blanco por la bandera argentina, y rojo y amarillo por la bandera española.
And now, following, I also show my astonomical block with pride. 4th row, 5th column. In blue and white for the Argentinian flag, and red and yellow for the Spanish flag.


Hay muchas otras colchas hechas con bloques con estrellas.
There are many other quilts made with star blocks. 
Es increíble la variedad de estrellas que se pueden hacer. Una idea, multiplicidad de resultados.
Y para mí la moraleja es que cada estrella brilla por sí, pero esa "infinidad" de estrellas, todas distintas,  en conjunto forman un hermoso cielo estrellado y una "vía láctea" espectacular.
It is incredible how many different stars can be made. One idea, mulitiplicity of results.
And to me, the morale of the story is that each star shines on its own, but that "infinite" number of stars, which are all different, make as a whole a beautiful starry sky and a spectacular "milky way".
