LAS INTERMEDIAS -- The middle ones

These three are quilts that I call "for watching TV", the typical ones you keep around the house and keep you warm on the sofa. They are not bed quilts, which are longer and wider, and made according to the size of the bed (single or double, queen, etc...).

#12 scrappy triangles
For Isabel, who gave me lots of big and small pieces of fabric, and keeps supplying me with scraps... It is a very simple, basic design: two colour squares, half light colour, half dark. And then you have to dedicate some time to move the pieces around until you find the combination that pleases you most.
Off centered, neutrals and darker hues

Quilting is quite simple, along the diagonal lines, and the binding is made with the same fabric as the back.
The photo of the label is a bit blurred, but it is the only one I have.

Nº 4. Para Rosemary
#4 For Rosemary
Very simple, in the ditch, quilting
This was my first "challenge": to make a patchwork quilt for somebody who lives in the USA, as people in the USA do know about quilts. they are used to them. Everybody has at least one at, or has had one, sometime. Quilts are seen everywhere because they are a tradition...

At this time I did not yet know how to match corners and points, and the diagonal lines are not all quite diagonal. But then... Oh! how much you can learn and progress on making these mistakes!! At this stage I did not even consider the idea of taking up a course...
Bordes redondeados. Rounded corners

Nº 11 Retalitos naranjas para Maria Eugenia
#11 Maria Eugenia's Scrappy orange
In the middle of the making, the sewing maxchine broke down! As I needed to finish it and give it to her, a friend lent me hers, and so I was able to finish it... but I wasn't comfortable, working on a machine that is not mine...
I later learnt that polyester batting is not the best for quilting, especially if you quilt on your domestic sewing machine. A cotton/polyester mix is preferable and equally warm, as it makes quilting easier and the finishing looks better.
Nº 11. #11. Quilting is very simple, straight, in the ditch lines. Polyester batting.
¿Has descubierto cuáles?
Most of the diagonal lines follow the same direction but there are a few squares where the diagonals go in the other direction. Have you detected them?

Squares and half square triangles admit numerous combinations and make the design quite dynamic. Which of the three do you like best?
